Time to train a new skill: book cover design.
I’ve always messed around with it a bit but not seriously enough to improve. But it turns out books need covers and mine will be no exception.
I could pay someone to do it, yes, but this is my book and I want to pick what it looks like. It’s time to learn how to make one and get good, before I need one.

For a practice piece I decided to tackle the cover to my short story Stone In The Sky.
I spent 8 straight hours designing this cover, and tried so many different things before settling on this, so I HOPE YOU LIKE IT.
It’s all just photos chopped up and mashed together, no AI stuff at all.

Looking forward to tackling the next one. I know it’s going to be hard but hopefully it comes out cool. I’ll show you next week.
Ok: last Monday I promised to show that week’s stats. Let’s pull them up:

Not a terrible week but not the massive increase I hoped for.
On Sunday I actually wrote a massive essay on character creation in fiction. It used up all my writing time, but I’m counting that as progress because I was teaching myself/learning.
Here’s to cool book covers,
— Samuel
