I told the story about the 100,000 word manuscript I wrote twice and threw away:

I’ve been busy! Designed two new book covers these last two weeks, and got a lot of drafting done. I’m nearing the end of this draft…read on to see how much (how little!) is left to write.

In today’s progress update:

  • Showing off the two cover designs I built

I created cover art for my short stories The Hand Of God and Waterfall. These stories are both up on Amazon with horrible ugly covers, but I’ll get the shiny new ones up there soon:

The one for Waterfall is probably the very best so far. Both of these are better than the one I did for Stone In The Sky (see it here.)

That’s all the stories I have published, so I’ll probably do a cover for one of my unpublished works next. Or maybe somebody else’s work.

I have seven more chapters to write before I reach the end of this draft. But once I finish those…what then?

Well, then it’s time for editing. That will be a somewhat tedious process where I read through the multi-hundred-thousand-word manuscript, take copious notes, read lots of good books for reference, and then slowly and manually shape my rough-hewn story into a more structurally beautiful shape.

After that, it’s on to cleaning up the writing itself and making sure I use my verbs correctly and put little apostrophes in all the right places and whatnot.

Here’s to rapid-but-still-high-quality drafting,

— Samuel
